New Hope Revitalizes Affordable Housing

New Home, a New Hope subsidiary, has been re-activated and is assessing housing opportunities to build in a number of areas in Southern Indiana, with a primary focus on senior adults, including those raising grandchildren.

In late January 2010, New Hope purchased four lots from builder and developer Bob Lynn in a area just off Allison Lane near Jefferson High School. Lynn’s development is called Aberdeen. New Hope’s development, for up to 27 units, 12 duplexes and one triplex will be called Aberdeen Woods.

President / CEO Jim Bosley commented, “Our last housing initiative was about 18 months ago and we have been on the lookout for some new opportunities and new areas to build in for sometime.

Construction on the first eight units in Aberdeen Woods will begin in late Spring, 2010, with initial occupancy estimated by the end of the year. Recognizing the special needs of senior adults, a playground will be built to accommodate children and a small senior center will be built with fax, internet services and meeting space. Pat Woosley, newly hired Housing Manager with more than 20 years of experience in housing development said, “These new units will be rental and residents can be eligible for HUD section 8 subsidies.”

Bosley further explained, “All of a sudden several housing projects have surfaced in recent weeks. We are looking into another area near High Meadows in Utica to be called Hatfield Creek with potential for 17 units, also for seniors.” Following the flood of 1997, New Hope established a housing subsidiary to offer direction and leadership in developing safe, decent and affordable housing. New Hope built a large number of single family homes in High Meadows to accommodate residents displaced by the flood.

New Hope is also under discussions with New Albany city officials for a major housing rehabilitation project to potentially involve 20 single family homes. In addition, New Hope will be assisting the City of Jeffersonville who may be relocating several residences located in an area susceptible to flooding.

In the past thirteen years, New Hope has constructed over 80 single family homes and 226 apartments.  Apartment complexes are located in four areas:

                    • Quartermaster Court, Jeffersonville - 32 units
                    • Willow Trace, Jeffersonville - 36 units
                    • Highland Glen, Scottsburg - 64 units
                    • River's Edge, Clinton - 39 units
                    • Forest Glen, Elwood - 55 units
